When I sit down at a canvas I have only two rules; 1. Start painting the first thing that enters my mind, and 2. Don't back down once I've started. After the first element of the painting feels complete I stop, look at what I've done, then add the next element using the same two rules. When the painting reaches the edge of the canvas it's done. I sometimes recognize the images as parts of dreams, recollections of very old memories or just as reflections of my current mood. Sometimes I have no idea where they came from.
In any case, I think the images in my paintings are as personal as a dream. I doubt they have any "meaning". I’d be very interested to hear if anything in my work resonates with you. Perhaps the collective subconscious rather than my personal one was their origin.
